— Welcome, I'm Khaldoon Alghanimi

About me

I am an EX-Muslim scholar, humanist, secularist writer & activist.

Early Life and Education

Born and raised in Iraq, I pursued higher education with a strong foundation in both engineering and the French language. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Baghdad, alongside a Bachelor of Arts degree in the French Language from the same institution.

Exploration of Islamic Sharia & Education

My journey led me to Najaf, the sacred city of Shia Islam in southwestern Iraq. There, I delved into the study and teaching of Islamic Sharia, rooted in Shia Muslim Doctrine, for approximately seven years. However, it was during this time that I began to uncover numerous ideological and humanist concerns within Islam.

A Path to Atheism

Driven by a relentless pursuit of truth and enlightenment, I embarked on a challenging and extensive exploration. Ultimately, this journey led me to renounce Islam completely. My commitment to advocating for secularism as a global solution became resolute.

The Transition to the USA

Due to my outspoken beliefs and positions, I found myself compelled to flee the Middle East for the safety of the United States. In September 2014, I arrived in the U.S. and wasted no time in pursuing my vision.

Free Mind TV

In October 2014, I initiated the groundbreaking Free Mind TV project. With sheer determination and personal efforts, I transformed my own residence into a studio, collaborating with my family, including his wife and sons, to launch a 24/7 Online TV Channel. This endeavor marked a significant milestone in advocating for free speech, secularism, and humanism.

Free Mind Magazine

In August 2016, I, together with a cohort of like-minded secular writers and free thinkers, ushered in the second phase of my mission with the inception of Free Mind Magazine. Drawing upon the contributions of around 33 writers from diverse backgrounds, including Egypt, Iraq, Algeria, Sweden, the USA, Syria, France, Norway, Holland, Sudan, Morocco, and the UK, the magazine serves as a platform for those who are dedicated to effecting positive change in the world.

Khaldoon Alghanimi does not support the social media bans on Donald Trump. In his view, the move by Facebook, Twitter, and Google to suspend the former US President from his favorite platforms violates freedom of speech, and nobody has the right to do that. “People are entitled to their opinions, no matter what opinions they have,” he says.
